Work is set to start soon on a £6.5 million new homes project for Camborne described by the developers as setting new standards in sustainability and eco-friendliness.
Kerrier District Council has granted planning permission for the creation of 14 houses and 18 apartments, including eight affordable units, on a 1.05-hectare site on the corner of Mount Pleasant Road and Cadogan Road.
To be known as Godolphin View, the scheme has been described as "innovative" by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and is being developed by Redruth-based St Piran Homes, member of the Rowe Group and formerly David Ball Construction.
With sustainability a key brand value of the recently re-launched company, the project will include a "green" hot water and heating system through ground source heat pumps. These will build the heat up via boreholes to supply underfloor heating and hot water cylinders.
Other energy-efficient design measures include the orientation of a number of houses within 30 degrees of south to allow the conservatories to act as solar collectors. In summer, the double height space will be cooled with opening roof lights to allow heat to be dumped at high level.
Godolphin View has also been designed with an emphasis on pedestrian priority over motor vehicles. The streets are specially designed to offer a safe environment for children’s play and recreation.
Prices are expected to range from £160,000 to £350,000. |
